Lot Essay

A closely related fauteuil de bureau and the only recorded piece by Derichecourt was sold, Hotel Drouot, Paris, 15 June 1988, and is illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Français du XVIIIème siècle, Paris, 1998, p. 256.

The work of Derichecourt on the present fauteuil de bureau can be closely related to that of the menuisier Etienne Meunier, active during the first half of the 18th century, whose trademark caned fauteuil de bureau is illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Français du 18ème siècle, Paris, 1998, p. 563. A further related fauteuil de bureau by Meunier is in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, and further examples stamped by Meunier were sold anonymously at Christie's, New York, 21 October 1997, lot 176 ($18,400 including premium) and Christie's, New York, 27 September 2007, lot 96 and 276, respectively.
