A ROMAN TERRACOTTA COMPOSITE LAMP STAND WITH CENTRAL EAGLE
2ND-3RD CENTURY A.D.
The figure of an eagle standing with wings outstretched and head turned to one side within an arch, a lamp at either side with palmette handle, the arch surmounted by an incense burner(?), a bowl before the eagle, on circular base, 7½ in. (19 cm.) high; a large triangular terracotta lamp handle moulded with a palmette flanked by two dolphins, mounted, 4 in. (10.2 cm.) high; and another terracotta handle with helmeted head of Athena in relief, 4½ in. (11.4 cm.) long, both circa 1st Century A.D. (3)

German private collection, formed during the 1960s-1970s.
