AN APULIAN RED-FIGURE GOAT-HEAD RHYTON
325-300 B.C.
The black-glazed head finely and realistically modelled with added white paint to accentuate the features, the neck of the vessel decorated in red-figure with female head in profile between scrolling tendrils; and a similar unglazed terracotta goat-head rhyton, decorated with white slip, 325-300 B.C.
7½ in. (19 cm.) and 6¾ in (17.5 cm.) long respectively (2)
Provenance
Property from the Collection of the Princely House of Liechtenstein; acquired by Prince Johann II (1840-1929) in the late 19th Century.
