2 volumes, 2° (368 x 266 mm). 86 lithographic plates, all but one hand-coloured, by William C. Hewitson, printed by Hullmandel & Walton. (Light spotting to preliminaries and titles, plates in vol. II with variable light spotting to top margins of first ten plates.) Contemporary green half morocco, spines gilt, marbled endpapers, gilt edges (spines slightly soiled, lightly rubbed). Provenance: George Savile Foljambe (bookplate).

HANDSOME SET OF THE FIRST EDITION OF DOUBLEDAY'S 'MOST AMBITIOUS WORK' (ODNB). Left unfinished at the author's early death, it was finally completed by Westwood in 1852. Nissen ZBI; BM(NH) I 474. (2)
