4° (293 x 207mm). 29 lithographic plates, some coloured, and one large folding map in rear pocket, text illustrations. (Some spotting, mostly marginal, occasional dust-soiling.) Original pictorial blue cloth, gilt edges (small tear at rear hinge). Provenance: gift inscription from George Savile Foljambe to his wife, Gertrude Emily Foljambe, May 1858. FIRST EDITION. Having first been posted to India with the Bengal Engineers, Yule later served as secretary on Phayre's mission to Burma in 1855, following the 1852-3 Burmese war. His account of Burma is 'widely acclaimed' (ODNB). Abbey Travel 408 (red cloth binding).
