Letterpress dedication leaf with large engraved vignette after Meyer, 68 engravings by van Wittel, Falda, Collin and others, 6 double-page, one full-page and the rest half-page, woodcut device on title, woodcut head- and tailpieces. (Without the comet plate called for in the plate list as usual, dedication leaf lightly soiled.) 18th-century calf, gilt spine, red sprinkled edges (extremities worn). Provenance: Francis Ferrand Foljambe (stamp on title).

A LARGE COPY of the second edition of Meyer's important work on the restoration of the Tiber river for navigation, agricultural, and other uses. A Dutch hydraulic engineer, Meyer treats of erosion, flow, locks and weirs, navigation below Rome to the sea, and draining the Pontine marshes, making a variety of proposals for monuments, columns, etc. in Rome's piazzas and churches. The fine plates include city views and panoramas, and even a horseless carriage. Bound with the 8-leaf work of decrees of the Camera Apostolica cited in Cignonara 3791. Not in BL. Cicognara 3792.
