2° (287 x 190mm). 2 woodcuts, one with woodcut side-pieces, section title for Roman de la Rose with 4-piece architectural woodcut border, woodcut ornamental initials, black letter, double column, headlines with foliation. (Lacking 28 leaves [D2, P5-6, Q1-3, Ooo5-6, Ppp6 Qqq6], about 14 leaves defective, some staining, numerous tears, most repaired, without loss.) 17th-century English calf (rebacked preserving gilt backstrip, modern flyleaves). Provenance: Arthur Taylor of Grantham/Londonthorpe, Lincolnshire (several contemporary inscriptions) -- Grace Cockit (early inscription) -- Thomas Hewet (17th-century inscription) -- Francis Ferrand Foljambe (stamp).
Fourth collected edition, published jointly by four booksellers; this is the issue for William Bonham. Thynne's was the first critical edition of Chaucer and several of his edited versions remained the best or earliest text available.
