unique screenprint in colors, 1982, on heavy wove paper, with the artist's copyright stamp on the reverse, one of a limited number of experimental impressions (there was no published edition), the full sheet, scuffs, minor scratches and surface soiling, a 1½-in. tear at the center right sheet edge (extending into the image, reinforced with tape on the reverse), scattered foxing throughout (primarily visible in the areas without ink and on the reverse), nicks, creases and heavier soiling at the sheet edges

Lot Essay

Warhol created this image for Rainer Fassbinder's last film, which was based on the novel of the same name by Jean Genet. No paintings of this subject are known and presumably only a few experimental screenprints exist -- the final version was used for an advertising poster of unknown edition size.
