Lot Essay

This picture is closely based on the Christ disputing with the Doctors in the Temple, given by most scholars to Bartolomeo Manfredi, recorded in the collection of Carlo de' Medici by 1666 (as by Caravaggio), and now in the Uffizi, Florence.
