A smaller version, signed, inscribed and dated 'Frederic Rehberg a Rome 1808' is in the Music room of the Charlottenzimmer in the Residenz, Munich (Bayerische Verwaltung der Staatlichen Schlösser, Gärten und Seen, inv. no. ResMü G 315). Three further paintings by Rehberg remain in situ in the Music room. The Munich picture, which measures 83 x 63 cm., is slightly different, showing Venus standing in her chariot. Her red mantle has different pattern, and the whole image is set into a more extensive landscape. We are grateful to Dr. Peter O. Krückmann, curator of the Schloss Nymphenburg for his assistance in cataloguing this lot.
