Lot Essay

" In the early spring of 1929 Rubin boarded the ship auretania returning from New York to Tel Aviv. On the trip he met his wife to be, Esther Davis. Rubin said that he fell in love with her as soon as she looked at him with her large, sea coloured eyes. Esther was to prove the ideal helpmate, with an intuative understanding of the demands of the artists' temperament, a finely disciplined intelligence, and outstanding gifts as a hostess."
A year after the voyage they married. S. Wilkinson, Reuven Rubin, New york, 1971, p. 56.
