Each of flared D-section, the fronts with three panels finely painted en camaïeu rose with buildings and figures in river landscapes enriched with the sgrafitto technique, within rococo scroll-moulded cartouches in shades of green and enriched in black, the rocaille lower parts on three scroll feet, the shoulders moulded with rocaille ornament centred by shells, the sloping closed tops with navette-shaped pierced apertures radiating from central cartouche-shaped apertures (one with small chip to lower edge, minor glaze chipping)

Lot Essay

Cf. Maioliche di Lodi, Milano e Pavia, Catalogo della Mostra (Poldi Pezzoli, 1964), no. 349 for a jardinière of the same form with the exception of an open top. Another jardinière of similar form is illustrated in Saul Levy, Maioliche Settecentesche Lombarde e Venete (Milan, 1962), tav. XV and attributed to Pasquale Rubati. See also the pair of jardinières with polychrome Italianate views in gilt cartouches, sold (as Künersberg) anonymously in these Rooms on 9th and 12th October 1995, lot 270.
