Lot Essay

A table, with almost identical painted scrolling foliage and portrait medallions is illustrated in E. Barbolini,Mobili Impero, Il Neoclassicismo tra Emilia e Lombardia Bologna, 2000, p 130. Paint analysis has revealed a combination of lead white and prussian blue which is consistent with Italian furniture from the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
