Lot Essay

Accompanied by Patek Philippe Certificate or Origin dated March 2004 made out by Gübelin, Geneva, plain platinum screw back number 4'225'242, 18K white gold and wooden setting pin, original fitted wooden presentation box and outer packaging.

This watch has never been offered in public before and is in original, unused condition as still in the sealed plastic pouch. Reference 3970 in platinum was available with silvered dial with baton numerals or black dial with diamond indexes. The present watch however is one of the rare examples of this reference featuring a black dial without the diamond indexes but with the applied white gold baton numerals.

The celebrated reference 3970 was in production from 1986 until 2004. The model is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, p. 305.
