Lot Essay

From a series of Commedia del'Arte characters modeled by Franz Anton Bustelli for the Nymphenburg manufactory circa 1760, the present figure was made in the years immediately following his untimely death in 1762, as demonstrated by the presence of the blue mark in use 1763 - circa 1767. See Dr. Alfred Ziffer, Nymphenburger Porzellan, Sammlung Bäml, Munich, 1997, p. 62, cat. no. 94 and p. 391.
