Lot Essay

This is a study for the panel 'Building the New Home', one of four pendentives Brangwyn painted for the State Capitol, Jefferson City, USA between 1915 and 1925. The pendentives were each 731.5cm. (24 ft) high, 1463cm (48ft) wide at the top and 457cm (15ft) wide at the base. Brangwyn also painted a large canvas for the eye of the dome and eight lower dome panels. They were all executed at his Temple Lodge studio in Hammersmith.
