The Keswick School of Art and Industrial Design was set up by Canon Rawnsley, champion of the Lake District and founder of the National Trust in the 1890's with a view to developing the ideas of 'Truth and Nature'. The School prospered and developed a reputation for high quality copper and silver decorative metalwork in the late 19th and early 20th Century, probably when this lantern was made.
