Lot Essay

This painting would appear to be a version of a Wilson composition generally known as River Mouth with Peasants Dancing, examples of which are now in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (W.G. Constable, Richard Wilson, London, 1953, p. 216, no. 105a.), and in the Neue Pinakothek, Munich (D.H. Solkin, Richard Wilson: The Landscape of Reaction, Exhibition catalogue, The Tate Gallery, London, 1982, p. 244, under no. 139, fig. 22).
