A SCOTTISH SILVER-MOUNTED CASKET
MARK OF DAVID MACGREGOR, PERTH, DATED 1879
Oblong, the hinged cover applied with a coat-of-arms, two monograms and a shield with an engraved inscription, the foliage border set with four half pearls, the corners each applied with a crown-capped column, the front applied with an openwork lock plate, sides applied with a laurel wreath, on four bun feet, each engraved with a name 'A. McIntosh, Scone', 'J. Beattie, Perth', 'R. Macauley' and 'A. Crawford', the lockplate stamped 'DAVID MACGREGOR, PERTH', the interior lined with velvet and containing a manuscript document granting William Ewart Gladstone the Freedom of the City of Perth, dated 26 November 1879, and a note inscribed 'Freedom of Perth/1st.December.1879'
4 in. (10 cm.) high; 8¼ in. (20½ cm.) wide; 5¼ in. (13 cm.) deep
The arms are those of the City of Perth.

The inscription reads 'BURGESS TICKET PRESENTED TO THE Right Honble W.E. Gladstone M.P. By the Lord Provost, Magistrates and Council OF THE CITY OF PERTH 1st Decr 1879'
