FIRST SEPARATE EDITION from volume I of the Boston Medical and Surgical Journal; and the Transactions of the American Medical Association. Containing printings of two papers, Ether and Chloroform: A Compendium of their History, Surgical Use, Dangers, and Discovery, and Anaesthetic Agents, their Mode of Exhibition and Physiological Effects, written for two different journals in the space of six months, combined here with the title on the upper wrapper. 'Bigelow's speedy publication of Morton's discovery, and his subsequent advocacy of ether assured its adoption throughout the civilized world. The above work deals with the priority claims in general and with a defence of Morton's claim in particular', Garrison-Morton 5730. Fulton and Stanton VII.193.
