FIRST EDITION of Laplace's important work in which he expounds his theory of the origin of our solar system, putting forward his idea that the solar system was formed by a huge incandescent nebula of which the sun is merely a relic. The above work is the non-mathematical predecessor of his Mécanique Céleste (Paris, 1799-1825). (2)
