Lot Essay

Names, Names, Names, painted towards the end of Dillon's life, encorporates the figure of the pierrot to symbolise himself. Dillon's three brothers had all died from heart disease in the early 1960s and he would suffer later in that decade. The pierrot or harlequin is used as a symbol for his grief and sadness, and can be seen recurring throughout his work of this period.
