The 2¾-in. diameter pocket globe signed CARY'S Pocket GLOBE agreeable to the latest DISCOVERIES, LONDON pubd by J&W CARY Strand April 1794 composed of 12 engraved gores showing the tracks of Capt. Cook and other navigators, equatorial ring divided in four quadrants and meridian half-circle, with quadrant scale to each side, with geared mechanism and hour circle (abrasions to globe, slight loss to paper gore off the coast of Australia), geared lunarium with ivory spheres for moon and earth with engraved equator, tropics, arctics and ecliptic, rings for lunar and zodical calendar, perigee and apogee elliptical ring, ring for the inclination of the moon's orbit 5°18', four planetary arms with two ivory planets (some damage), brass sun-ball, the 8¾-in. diameter drum with ivory-handled winding key, the face plate engraved with central stylised star form, zodiacal calendar divided to the day and a monthly calendar scale, signed W.&S. JONES Holborn London, on a tapering brass column with three legs.
