The circular tilt-top inlaid with a radiating spiral of specimen woods including rosewood, coromandel and palm and with a foliate carved edge on a boldly reeded and S-scroll carved pedestal and a concave sided platform carved with rosettes and lotus leaves on foliate bun feet, with the remains of depository labels to the underside

Lot Essay

Peter Arendzen was a Dutch artist and engraver who settled in Britain having travelled from his native Holland in order to make copies of Dutch Old Master paintings in British Royal collections, and has architectural drawings in the collection of the Rijksmuseum. Among his family's own collections were objects believed to have been bought at the Paris Exhibitions.
An almost identical table was sold Christie's, London, 21-22 November 2007, Lot 160. A related example was displayed in the Ceylon Court of the Paris 1855 International Exhibition and discussed in the Catalogue of the Natural and Artificial Products of Ceylon, 1855.
