The finely-cast foliate scrolling mounts to the frieze with bulrush, flowers and acanthus leaves are characteristic of the type and quality of Zwiener. Recorded at Moorfields as early as 1766, and then at Ludgate Hill, the firm of Wilkinson & Son held from 1855 to 1909 premises at 8 Old Bond Street. A 'drawing room cabinet' by the 'extensive establishment of Mr Wilkinson' was shown at the 1862 International Exhibition. It is possible that Wilkinson may have acquired this gueridon wholesale from Zwiener's workshop, the decorators Jansen or a French retailer.
