Lot Essay

Dirk van Hoogstraten was the father and first teacher of Rembrandt's pupil Samuel van Hoogstraten. Only two other signed works by the artist are known, one being the Madonna and Child and Saint Anne, dated 1630, in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam (inv. no. A1500).
