Lot Essay

From 1897 on Toorop worked regularly in Domburg, where he became lifelong friends with General Johan Drabbe, who lived with his daughter Mies at Westerstraat 22. Mies was not only Toorop's pupil and model, but also helped him organise exhibitions in Domburg, in the newly built pavilion, designed by Toorop. Toorop both portrayed father and daughter Drabbe several times in different techniques.
