indigo and white wool and cotton jacquard coverlet worked with a pattern of eagles, stars and flowerheads, the borders with 'Monkey & Tree' pattern, the corners with the Tyler stylized lion and the initial 'MS'

Harry Tyler built his own looms, and designed his own motifs. The lion trademark was used from 1832 until 1845, when the family replaced it with a more patriotic American Eagle. This early example of a Tyler coverlet is a rarity, and a fine example of early American craftsmanship.
