Lot Essay

The exhibition catalogue for Encounters notes that "In devising its panoramic wallpaper l'Indoustan, French wallpaper-makers Zuber drew freely from the Daniells' picturesque views of India. The design of this panel marries the great Nandi from the Brihadisvara Temple at Tanjore with a section of the famous frieze The Descent of the Ganges at Mamallapuram."
