A gopuram is a monumental tower at the entrance to a temple. This prominent feature of Hindu temple architecture is commonly found in Southern India. They function as gateways through the walls that surround the temple complex.

The entrance gateway to the Ranganatha temple at Srirangam, India's most famous unfinished gopuram, possesses a similar architectural style of roof and passageway as the present drawing.
