Designs for seat furniture in the Antique manner were popularised by Pierre-Antoine Leboux de la Mésangère's Journal des Modes et du Goût, a journal depicting contemporary society and fashion in Paris published between 1798 and 1835. A Roman sofa with alternate patterns implies that the designs were intended for publication. The various fauteuils and bergères feature klismos and Etruscan-scrolled legs, while others are adorned with lions, griffin and sphynx.
