Lot Essay

As noted by A. von Wurzbach, Niederländisches Künstlerlexikon etc, II, p.854, the painter worked as a portraitist in The Hague, where his father and Adriaan Hannema had been his teachers. In 1656 he was among the founding members of the Confraternity Pictura.
