A Rhinoceros horn libation cup, 17th Century
of tall elegantly flaring form, carved in relief to the body with figures seated within a meandering river scene amongst jutting rockwork and overhanging pine trees, the landscape continuing to the reverse side with a solitary bridge crossing to a rocky islet bearing blossoming foliage, carved with openwork to one of the sloping sides forming a network of intersecting gnarled trunks and branches, the foliate branches of which overhang and spread across the upper rock textured rim, the opposite rim edge with further pierced foliate branches -- 6 7/8in. (17.5cm.) wide, wood stand.
