The substantial katana of honzukuri length 75.8cm, with tight itame-hada and gunome choji hamon of nioi, variation in file marks on the tang suggesting that the sword might be o-suriage, mounted in a black lacquer ishimeji saya, the upper part wrapped in leather, and metal fittings of shakudo with scrolling and cherry blossom and kuyo (nine stars) mon, the menuki of armour shoulder pieces in shakudo and gold, the mokko tsuba of iron sculpted or etched deeply with irregular scrolling
