Lot Essay

A historical narrative originally written in the 11th century, Eiga monogatari deals principally with the career of the great nobleman Fujiwara no Michinaga (966-1027) under whose leadership the Fujiwara family of regents attained its greatest power and wealth. Another, perhaps slightly later, printing of this version is in the British Library, shelfmark 16052.f.21.
