Kim Jungsun is an artist whose deep contemplation over feminism, longevity and memory is revealed on her canvas. By examining photographs of the past, Kim seeks to "experience the moments that were once real but are now already in the past." These captured fragments of time not only serve for technical inspiration but also psychologically captivate Kim in that a photograph taken a long time ago is similarly a part of Kim's life experience as it was the moment the photograph was taken.

The paintings of the past Beautiful Days 2 and First Birthday suggest a strong nostalgia for the past. Dreamy and fluid, the paints of her canvas beautifully recreate the glossy texture of old photographs. As suggested in the titles, these two depicted moments were in some way unique and spoke to Kim. The direct gaze between the viewer and the painted figures suggests that Kim attempts to explore the identity and stories of the young girl (in First Birthday) and the two uniformed youth (in Beautiful Days 2). The two young women stand over the reflective mirror, spending a day in the sun perhaps, skipping school or simply taking in the surrounding nature. In First Birthday a young girls stands proudly but oblivious in her traditional Korean attire. It is these innocent, beautiful instants that Kim wishes to revisit in her works.

This longing and admiration Kim has for these moments is exemplified by her use of reflective oil paints and seamless brushwork. Every element of the painting whether it be the silk cloth, hair or backdrop are curiously flat, as if a figment of her imagination. Not every component of the composition is clearly defined but rather is intentionally painted as if fused together like our memories and imagination.
