19TH CENTURY
With early 16th century blade of characteristic type cut with a pair of shallow broad tapering fullers over its entire length on both sides and struck with a small star-shaped mark on one face, plain gilt-iron guard of one piece, arched large pommel decorated with scrollwork and laurel garlands, respectively in relief over the top and engraved front and rear, shaped grip, the sides overlaid with brass panels cast with a two-part Latin inscription, fitted with ivory grip-scales (age cracks), and both sides inset with brass tracery rosettes, in a brass-mounted leather-covered wooden scabbard.
