A GERMAN SMALL FLINTLOCK RIFLED SPORTING CARBINE
CIRCA 1670/80
With brass swamped octagonal sighted barrel engraved with bands of scrolling foliage over the breech and muzzle, decorated with a wreath over the face of the muzzle, struck with a mark, an eagle displayed, and rifled with seven grooves, brass lock slightly rounded and engraved with scrolls and grotesques (the cock missing), moulded figured walnut full stock inlaid with a series of engraved brass plaques, including flowers, an exotic bird behind the barrel tang, two human grotesques and with the brass initials 'FH', brass butt-plate, brass engraved scrolling side-plate, brass fore-end cap and ramrod-pipe, iron trigger-guard, set trigger, and ramrod (seized, the patch-box cover replaced).
