A CASED PAIR OF 11-BORE FLINTLOCK TRAVELLING PISTOLS BY C. GOODWIN & CO.
CIRCA 1807-1818
With octagonal sighted twist barrels inscribed 'London', engraved breech tangs, signed bolted locks with engraved bevelled edges (the pans with minor differences), rollers, figured walnut stocks, chequered butts, horn fore-end caps, blued iron trigger-guards engraved en-suite with the locks and each with pineapple finial, engraved blued belt hooks, stirrup ramrods, escutcheons engraved with owner's initials, and traces of original finish (one safety-catch and one ramrod each early working replacements), Birmingham proof marks: in lined and fitted mahogany case (correctly fitting these pistols but possibly earlier), with some accessories including a rare papier-mâché flask lacquered in imitation of copper.
