A VIENNESE FLINTLOCK SPORTING RIFLE MADE FOR A HAPSBURG PRINCE, BY CHRISTOPH RIS

With swamped octagonal sighted barrel rifled with seven grooves, signed 'Christoph Ris in Wienn' in gold letters and inlaid with gold scrollwork over the breech and muzzle, gold-lined vent, engraved barrel tang numbered 1, signed bevelled lock engraved with a boar-hunting scene, figured walnut full stock carved with scrollwork in low relief over the rear half (numerous small cracks, the fore-end cracked more extensively on one side towards the muzzle, the butt with later patch-box cover), brass mounts decorated throughout with rococo ornament, both cast in low relief and engraved, wooden trigger-guard, engraved brass fore-end cap, and pierced decorated escutcheon engraved with the arms of Austria, a Grand Ducal crown above (ramrod replaced).
