Elaborate allegorical title by Renold Elstracke with Royal coat-of-arms, engraved plate of 'The manner of sitting in the upper house of Parlament [sic]', 8 full-page costume portraits, numerous woodcut coats-of-arms, headpieces and initials, 25 sectional titles with woodcut vinework borders, errata leaf in three columns at end (foredge of general title trimmed with slight loss and fraying, plate trimmed at low edge with slight loss, light ink staining to the table, some mainly marginal staining and repairs, a few small rust-holes). Contemporary calf (rebacked and recornered, rubbed, new endpapers). Provenance: some early annotations and underlining; some later pencil annotations. STC 17926; Lowndes IV, 1552: "An elaborate and judicious work ..." A passage relating to Charles Blount, the Earl of Devonshire's, "naturall children" is often excised from folios 393-4 but not in this copy.
