SCHILLER, Friedrich von (1759-1805). A lock of Schiller's hair, the slender lock of blonde hair bound with thread, against a card inscribed 'Haare v. Friedr. v. Schiller Geschenk v. Frl Elise v. Alberti durch ihren Vater', framed and glazed, 50 x 100mm, label numbered '7366' to lower right corner. Provenance: paper wrapper inscribed in a mid-19th century hand 'Haare von Fridrich von Schiller von seinem Sohn erhalten', and 'Schillers Haare'; autograph note signed by General von Alberti, Stuttgart, 10 April 1913, on a visiting card, 'Seit meiner Jugend weiß ich von meinem Vater, daß ihm die Haare Friedrich von Schillers von dessen Sohne Oberförste von Schiller s.Z. aus Freundschaft geschenkt worden sind. Dieselben waren immer in dem von meinem Vater überschriebenen Papier sorgfältig aufbewahrt [Since my childhood I knew from my father that the lock of hair of Friedrich von Schiller were given to him out of friendship by the latter's son. The lock was always carefully preserved in the paper inscribed by my father]'; two autograph letters signed by Alberti's daughter Elise, Stuttgart, 22 March and 10 April 1913, refer to the presentation of the hair to 'Edy'; with an envelope, and two related cards.
