YONGE, Charlotte Mary (1823-1901). Four autograph letters signed to Elizabeth Wordsworth, Elderfield, Otterbourne, Winchester, 31 October 1874 - 6 April 1900, together 18 pages, 8vo, with one envelope.

The novelist Charlotte Younge writes to Elizabeth Wordsworth [the principal of Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford (see also lots 340 and 344)], on literary matters ('have you seen that very admirable review of Daniel Deronda and George Eliot'), on the recipient's writing, the death of Lady Coleridge and other matters.

Yonge's early spiritual life had been guided by John Keble, and she was closely associated with the Tractarian movement. A prolific novelist and chronicler, she achieved greatest success with her novel the Heir of Redclyffe (1853). (4)
