The 293-ton snow Devonian was built at Sunderland in 1846, owned by Wilson Bros. and commanded by Captain Thomas Stamper from new until at least 1852. After spending her entire career trading out of Sunderland to the Mediterranean ports, latterly under Captain Mowbray, she was wrecked on the Dudgeon Shoal, off Cromer, on 30th October 1859 whilst outward bound with a cargo of coal. She was lost after colliding with an unidentified vessel and two from her crew of nine lost their lives. Two-masted vessels rigged as brigs and snows were often confused due to their almost identical appearance to all but professional mariners.
