MAGINI, Giovanni Antonio (1555-1617). Novae coelestium orbium theoricae congruentes cum observationibus N. Copernici. Venice: ex officina Damiani Zenarii, 1589.

4° (264 x 191mm). Engraved title, woodcut astrological diagrams, initials and decorations. (Lower corners of O3 and P3 torn away, not affecting text, light worming to rear pastedown.) Later stiff paper wrappers (spine internally broken, stitching weak). Provenance: neat ink annotation in an early hand to woodcut diagram on Cc4v -- evidence of bookplate removed from front pastedown.

FIRST EDITION of Magini's treatise on the cosmos, in which he attempted to devise an alternative model, following Copernicus's observations, but without espousing his heliostatic theory. Adams M-119; De Caro 103; Honeyman V 2098; Houzeau-Lancaster 12741.
