8° (192 x 125mm). Half-title, 4 advertisement leaves dated 10.10.05. Original green cloth, upper cover blindstamped with panel of fruits, lettered in gilt on upper cover and spine, top edge gilt (spine slightly faded).
FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed: "To Pinnie with affectionate good wishes from H.G. Wells" over an earlier, erased inscription. Wells's story of a draper's assistant who inherits a fortune was turned into a motion picture in 1920, and followed by a more ambitious Twentieth Century Fox production in 1941. The musical version, Half a Sixpence, proved highly successful during the 1960s. This is the second issue. Hammond A3; Wells 26.
