WINES FROM A GENTLEMAN
All collectors dread that seminal moment when you walk into your cellar, count the thousands of bottles patiently waiting to be imbibed, feel the breath of Father Time on your neck and do the quick math. Five thousand bottles... 50 years old... Children with bad palates... Or, as in the case of this consigner, you need to make room for the stunning 05's you bought in quantity! Thankfully for wine collectors, this realization creates a golden opportunity: the chance to build our own collections with pristine bottles of the very best that has been bought on release and stored perfectly by a fellow member of the Wine Order.
As the collector says in his own words, "I built this house, really, so I would have a place to store my wines." He spared no expense in the construction of the cellar, which keeps his sleeping bottles safe under a constant 53 degrees and the basement, in which the cellar lies, at a constant 55 degrees. Again the consignor: "If I were buying wine at an auction, this is the type of cellar from which I would want to buy."
This offering has something for everyone: mature Burgundy, both blanc et rouge, from well-respected producers, cult Italians, the legendary wines of Grange and of course, benchmark Bordeaux. Many cases are offered with less than 12 bottles, a testament to the original intention of the consigner, which was to drink! Several bottles were generously opened to demonstrate an incredible freshness and vigor. These wines have been nurtured by a true student of Bacchus, which, like any discipline, calls for fastidious research and precise presentation.
This consignor was kind enough to provide original receipts for nearly every case of wine.
Amanda Crawford
