A STUNNING COLLECTION OF NO RESERVE LOTS FOR DRINKING NOW
The following lots offer a retrospective of a collector's passion, cut short far too soon. Remnants remain of what was once a passionate drinker's cellar, from the vaulted first growths down to the refreshing clarets that once were the staple of Bordeaux.
Highlight to this diverse cache are obviously the 1990 Margaux and 67 d'Yquem. Also included are smaller, less prestigious Chateaux. This is an opportunity to try wines that rarely make it to the auction block, wines of humble origin aged to maturity in ideal storage conditions. These are the bottles for the dinner table, wines of quiet surprises and simplicity. This is Bordeaux the way it was intended, aged for 20 years, slowly shed of its angry fire of youth until, as Keats said "it is rather a peacemaker-and it lies as quiet as it did in the grape."
In the interest of finding homes for the wines that were once the pride and joy of a passionate connoisseur, we offer many without reserve. As one of the heirs said to me, "he truly loved sharing wine, and we see this as an extension of his generosity."

Levels: top shoulder; nicked labels, water stained labels, corroded capsule, sign of old seepage
"Of the eight recent notes, its depth of colour is the first thing one notices, and its nose, rather like Lafite's is a bit slow to open up, Suprisingly sweet too yet a very tannic finish (at Aschau in 1994). In 1997, a corky, woody bottle at a Saintbury Club dinner. It was helped along by the cheese souffle. At the La Réserve tasting, despite its extraordinary sweet, nose-filling bouquet, a mammoth wine, all the component parts excessively represented. Most recently, a superb bottle at Josh Latner's dinner. Last tasted Jan 2000 ****(**) Another half century of life." MB, Vintage Wine
