Adolph Gaap seems to have specialised in cups and covers such as this. Three similar examples, each on bold ball feet like the present example are illustrated in H. Seling, Die Kunst der Augsburger Goldschmiede 1529-1868, Munich, 1980, vol.II, pl. 389, 390 and 391.
