FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed on title less than three weeks before committing suicide on his way to England: "To the Institutuion of Naval Architects, With kind regards from Dr. Diesel, Munich, Sept 10th 1913." A chronological account of the origin of the diesel engine, and a testimony to Diesel's vision of using renewable energy sources like vegetable oils to fuel his engine.
